Where are the Games Jobs?

Check out the excellent Gamesmith Dev Map of games development studios (and therefore games jobs) around the world. It's a great starting point for anyone looking to apply for work as an animator in the rapidly expanding games industry.

Gamesmith Dev Map - Europe
Of course, a quick look at the map reveals that many of the jobs are in North America, where both the USA and Canada are industry leaders. However, take a look at Europe and it's a welcome surprise to see the UK at the top of the games charts.

So, how do animators use this map to find work? First of all, make a list of all the games studios in your area and note their names and addresses. These are the places you will apply to.

Next, polish your demo reel (make sure it's games-friendly; meaning lots of cycles and actions) and make sure your work is easy to find online, ideally hosted at your own website or blog.

The next step is to start applying for jobs. And remember not to be discouraged by rejection or - most commonly - hearing nothing.  Keep at it, persevere, polish your work, and you will succeed in the end.
